In 2021 and 2022, Larson & Darby Group designed and implemented a complete interior renovation of the Dimmick SD175 Grade School building. Despite being built in the early 2000’s, the interior finishes and palette were outdated. The school wished for a refresh that would integrate and showcase the schools’ colors throughout the renovation. The main entrance was redesigned to provide better security, an additional secure entrance was added to the original building, and the adjoining Main Office and Administration area was completely renovated. The renovations created a more welcoming feeling, an efficient use of the space, and better visual supervision and coordination with the new secure entrance.
All corridors and classrooms received new flooring, paint, and visual graphics which doubled as wayfinding and color cues for the different grade levels in the school. Existing lockers were electrostatically painted to coordinate with each grade level’s color scheme. Post-up areas and floor to ceiling whiteboards were incorporated into the corridor’s re-design for use as extended learning areas for team and group activities. Continuing the renovation efforts into the Cafeteria and Gym, a raised stage area was constructed between the two existing spaces that would double as an educational space and theatrical platform when not used for lunch (pictured above). This allows for greater flexibility for the school, students, and staff. The new stage includes theatrical curtains, lighting, and a sound system along with seating, tables, and whiteboard space on the acoustical partition wall that separates the Cafeteria and the Gym. On the Gym side, the partition wall was designed with custom graphics that highlight the school mascot. New lighting, flooring and wall finishes, acoustical elements and custom graphics bring the aesthetics of both spaces to a new level.
The Dimmick school community has always exhibited great pride in their facilities which has now increased significantly through a safe, welcoming, and motivating 21st century educational facility.
